Next Generation Building Solutions

Our team partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County in order to optimize their current family fulfillment process. Initially, our local chapter lacked the necessary staff and resources to design affordable, net zero homes that were optimized for the site conditions and each individual family's needs. We reconciled this by developing a design matrix that allowed for a greater consideration of site specifications and personalized family requirements while also maintaining the standards for a zero-energy ready home. Our matrix consists of twenty-four base floor plans that not only shortens the time span needed to design and build a new home, but also allows any family to customize a flexible home that is cost-effective, energy-efficient, and site specific. We tested our matrix by creating a case study family, the Doe family, and utilizing our system to select an flexible home that is optimized for the site and the family's individual needs. As a result, the Doe family can be proud to own a home that fits their unique goals and desires.
